THE CULTURE HOUSE
Location: Bistrica ob Sotli
Category: Architectural and ethnological heritage
The culture house has for decades been the place where every cultural event happened in Bistrica ob Sotli. The building was built by the Catholic Education association in 1928 and was renovated for a couple of times afterwards, but has been the center of culture in the village for the whole time.
After the war, they wanted to build a community center and renovate the educational center. In 1947, they started building it and soon after the opening in 1950, they opened a loan bank, a library with the reading club, a shop with the storage and a wine cellar in it. The hall was the place where drama plays were performed, celebrations were held and parties were organized. Moreover, the hall was also used as the local cinema. A decade later, a club room for socializing was opened.
In 2010, the extension meant for the local associations was built. The latest extension was built in 2013. It is a multi-purpose room called “Sušilnice”, used for holding events, lectures and congresses.
