THE GOD’S FOOT CHAPEL, ZAGAJ

The God’s foot chapel is situated a couple of metres away from the vicarage on the Holy Mountains a bit down the hill, and has been mentioned in written sources dating to the 18th century. The old chapel was torn down in 1939 and a new one was on its way to getting build a short distance lower in 1940. The plans were provided by an engineer from Ljubljana, Simon Kregar. Next to the spring at the time, they built faucets for the pilgrims and traders and a trough for watering livestock.
Today, the spring is basined, which is why the water doesn’t run any more. In 1980, the roof of the chapel has been repaired and the road has been renovated.
