THE SPRING OF RIVER TREBČICA
Location: Bistrica ob Sotli
Category: Natural heritage
The permanent spring has carved out a short gorge, over the course of thousands of years, above which an about 30 m high, blindingly while rock wall of limestone ascends. Wind, water, the Sun and frost do not permit the wall to be overgrown with greenery, but rather intensively chip at it, turning it into rubble which then slides and tumbles down the slopes and mounds in the vicinity of the spring.
In the dense undergrowth and in the shelter of a stone mound, grass snakes, dice snakes and toads live- animals, which are becoming scarce in other environments due to human impact. The tour of the gorge and the rock is possible from the upper side.
