CHURCH OF ST. CATHERINE

The church of St. Catherine of Alexandria was built 1691. on the foundations of the old church that collapsed because it was built on unstable area, it was also reconstructed in 1829. The church of St. Catherine is the central church of the parish Zagorska Sela, belongs to the old parish Archdiocese of Zagreb. It is located on a hill above the road that leads from Klanjac in the direction of Miljana and Veliki Tabor.
Entering the church, we look down on the main altar and the beautiful Baroque statue of St. Catherine that was acquired in 1694. in the workshop in Olimje (Slovenia). The main altar is from 1911., it is the work of Maribor sculptor A. Zorattija, and on the side of the tabernacle there are statues of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Mary and angels. On the pulpit are baroque statues of St. Catherine, St. Peter and Paul. They originate from the older pulpit from 1748. The church has a side-chapel built in 1742. That is dominated by the altar of the Sorrowful Virgin.
