THE HOLY MOUNTAINS- THE CHAPEL OF ST. MARTIN

Right under George’s chapel stands a chapel dedicated to St. Martin. It is built on bedrock and has a rectangular, pre-roman nave. In the 2nd half of the 15th century the nave has been vaulted. In front of the entrance is an open shack, added in the 16th century. Leading to the inside of the chapel is a narrow and high portal.
The interior of the chapel is painted with frescoes by a ‘master from Čelovnik’, depicting Martin on a horse, The Last Judgement, Veronica’s cloth… The presbytery is painted with early-baroque frescoes from the middle of 17th century. There is also an altar with a statue of St. Martin from 1665 in the presbytery.
